Poem for my niece Lexi

This is a poem that I wrote in honor of a very special angel. Hope that you all enjoy it as it was very difficult to write. Enjoy~

I Can Still Remember
By Sara Cooper

I can still remember the day you were born.
I can still remember the day I first heard your voice.
I can still remember the days I spent helping your mama get you to sleep.

I can still remember when I first saw your face.
It was in a picture your mama sent to me.
The way your face glowed in the sun.
The way your smile brightened up the room.

I can still remember the day that you went away.
I can still remember the pain your mama had to endure.
I can still remember the tears falling from our eyes.
I can still remember the pain that is still felt inside.

I can't help but wonder what would and could have been.
I still wonder why you were taken away from all of us so soon.
I guess that Heaven needed another angel.
I guess that it was just not meant for you to be here still.

Even though the pain never goes away,
Even though the hurt has never subsided even to this day,
You will always be remembered by the way you were loved by all of us.
And even though you had to leave so soon,
I just want you to know that no matter what.
Your mama and aunt Sara will never be able to forget you.
And that we will see you again someday ....
